Exercise Recovery Capacity

An aging individual’s response to anabolic stimuli i.e exercise, protein, insulin etc is different from younger individuals. A similar response also occurs in younger individuals who are sedentary or ill. Older individuals who trains everyday ought to understand that their recovery capacity from exercise stress and other anabolic stimuli diminishes. While a younger person will need just one good night’s sleep and a little protein to recover from a workout, an older individual will require higher amount of protein and two good nights sleep before the next workout. Those who don’t respect this process will definitely feel the exhaustion and this may even result in an injury (you will never realize that the injury is due to continuous physical over-exertion).

“Feeling” younger in the mind is advantageous in carrying out all physical and mental tasks, but also understand that “feeling younger” alone necessarily doesn’t mean that you will “recover” from the physical over-exertion. This is exactly where expertise of a coach matters most.

It’s not only about going to the gym and doing some random workouts only because you have a deadline of losing weight or transforming yourself, it’s about titrating the intensity based on every individual’s recovery capacity.
